Real Estate Brokers "Rowdism"

Recently I came across an incident of "rowdism" by a real estate broker. This has happened in Bangalore. An IT Engineer wanted to take a house on rent for 11 months near whitefield. Unfortunately, he came in contact with a broker like most of the people in the cities. The broker just showed a house. Thats all he did. Infact, he was not even authorised by the owner to do so. The broker then demanded one month rent of Rs.12,000 as his "service charge". When this poor guy refused to entertain his unreasonable demand [ while offering 15 days rent for just showing the house and doing nothing !], he was threatened with dire consequences. Finally, he had to shell out one month rent out of fear as the broker proved to be a criminal.
I have heard about many such instances of day light robbery by brokers. Hence, my advice to people searching for rented premises in cities like Bangalore is to at least demand the broker to arrange for copy of the title deed of owner of the rented premises, arrange for stamp paper on which agrement is going to be drawn and insist to get rent agrement drafted at his cost before paying money to them. It is highly useful to get information on rented premises from the various property websites.
Otherwise we are helping these criminals to make easy money !.

I can absolutely identify with this situation. It is pathetic!
We recently bought a plot in Bangalore and had to shell out 1% of the cost as brokerage just for showing the plot, although we took care of all the other details ourselves, as in registration, legal stuff etc. It was daylight robbery , but still had to do it.
Then now, another broker, claiming to have shown us the same plot two years ago came with 4-5 goons and threatened us and finally we had to give in and pay him .25% of the value again!!!!!! It was rowdism and we couldn't do anything about it! Going to the police didn't seem like a choice since the broker resides right near where the plot is and you never know what these people can do. Anyway, thats life in Bangalore :(

Yes. This kind of rowdism in Bangalore is too much. The brokers [ most of them] are unlawful elements in the society. We need to be careful while dealing with such charecters. I am sure whether they are necessary evils in real estate market !.
